About the Author: Rabbi Royi Shaffin


Rabbi Royi Israel Shaffin, the Shepherd of Israel and author of the “The Hollywood Bible”, is the rabbi at Temple Beth-El of Bellmore and a Hebrew Instructor at the Weinstein JCC.  He has also written a short story published in Dor: Journal For Adult Children of the Holocaust, an entry in A Tribute To a Teacher, by Jeffrey Spoden, and numerous op-ed articles for newspapers such as the Jewish State and the Jewish Journal.  He also writes for The Forward, City Beat Magazine, and El Diario and has a blog at The Times of Israel.  His writings span the full spectrum of Jewish religious and political topics.  He considers himself a member of both the faith community and the community of artists and free-thinkers.  As such, he bridges the gap between religion and reason, Jewish law and creativity, the comic and the serious, belief and inquiry.  His creative writing and commentary on the Jewish world uses Torah sources, unique insight, satire, comedy, passion, and life experience to shed light on Jewish tradition and life in the modern world, emphasizing the beauty of and wisdom in Jewish life.
